Pirogues Catering is owned and operated by Jim and Dorothy Tipton.
Jim Tipton is the Executive Chef at the Highland Conference Center in Mitchell, South Dakota. Jim's culinary excellence has grown in his 27 years of experience. He has catered for groups up to 500 and more. Jim's southern roots gave him his passion for great taste for Mexican, barbeque, and Cajun style cuisine.
Jim and Dorothy met while serving as cooks in the Military. Dorothy, raised in rural SD, provides the home-style soups and salads for Pirogues Catering.
Of their 25 years of marriage, Jim and Dorothy have spent most of them providing great meals for groups of all sizes to enjoy. Jim and Dorothy have owned and operated two restaurants together and in December 2007, Pirogues Catering was awarded the Exclusive Catering Contract for the Highland Conference Center. Pirogues Catering also operates their outside catering out of the Highland Conference Center kitchen facilities.

Whether it is a large wedding or a small meeting, we get tons and tons of compliments from our guests about how wonderful the food is." says Jill Larson, Events Coordinator for the Highland Conference Center.
Jim and Dorothy's four children are also involved in the family business. Jimmy and Andy, the oldest of the four, are assistant Chefs. Josh is a part time employee and helps out when needed. Ashley, when not attending college, is also a help in the kitchen.
When not in the kitchen, Jim and Dorothy enjoy spending time with their grandchildren, Torrence Marie and Jaxon Drew Tipton.
